MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC scored off a corner kick in the 15th minute, which proved to be the difference in the match as the fifth-place Riverhounds SC clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Memphis 901 FC Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

The try was Pittsburgh's (15-4-10, 55 pts) only corner kick of the night and the shot was one of only five it had in the match, as the Memphis defense held tight for the remainder of the match.

"We both had very difficult games on the weekend," 901 FC head coach Tim Mulqueen said. "Theirs was 0-0 in Nashville, and ours was 1-0 here against Saint Louis. Credit to them, they found a way to win. We talk about critical moments, they come at different times. They had one corner, one shot on goal, and that's all they got. We had to make a play, and we didn't."

901 FC (8-14-7, 31 pts) had a 57-43 percent advantage in possession for the match, had over 600 passes, and continued to pressure the Pittsburgh defense all night. In particular, Memphis had six tries in less than 20 minutes at the start of the second half and four in less than three minutes around the 70-minute mark, but the club could not find the back of the net.

"We rode our luck a little in the second half," Pittsburgh head coach Bob Lillie said. "We had some moments where we broke out in numbers and could have had a second goal, and I'd like to see us execute instead of sitting on a 1-0 lead. If one bounce doesn't go our way, at the end of the game it's 1-1 and we've dropped the points.

"Memphis deserves a lot of credit for putting a lot of pressure on us in the second half. Thankfully we were able to hold out. I don't want to go through many second halves like that."

Pierre Da Silva led 901 FC with five shots in the match, two of which were blocked, and Marc Burch and Dan Metzger each had two key passes.

The loss snapped Memphis' four-match winning streak, which was the longest in the USL Championship Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh has not allowed a goal on its current six-match unbeaten streak.

Memphis remains at AutoZone Park for a Saturday night contest against Bethlehem Steel FC. Kickoff in Downtown Memphis is set for 7:00 p.m.
