Pitching Strong Again as 'Wolves Win Fourth Straight

The Erie SeaWolves were paced by a solid night from the pitching staff and timely hitting as they won their fourth straight game, taking down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-1 on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the top of the fourth inning against Fisher Cats starter Andrew Moore. Moore retired the first two batters of the inning before giving up a double to Parker Meadows. Quincy Nieporte doubled Meadows home with a shot of the wall in center. It was Nieporte's league-leading 72nd RBI. Dillon Dingler singled home Nieporte for a two-run advantage.

Erie starter Sawyer Gipson-Long began his night allowing one hit with a pair of strikeouts in facing the minimum over the first three innings.

The righty ran into trouble in the fourth. With one out, Addison Barger, Orelvis Martinez and John Aiello each singled, loading the bases. Zac Cook hit into a fielder's choice and Erie cut down Barger at the plate for the second out. Luis De Los Santos then singled home Martinez, cutting the Erie lead in half. Gipson-Long induced a fly out from Phil Clarke to get out of the jam, stranding the bases loaded.

The 'Wolves went back up by two runs in the fifth, again with two out hitting. Luis Carpio singled to extend the inning and was doubled home by Daniel Cabrera who finished with his second straight multi-hit game.

Meadows then gave Erie a three-run lead in the top of the sixth when he led off and blasted his 11th home run off of reliever Sean Wymer. The home run for Meadows was his second in as many games and he has now hit safely in six straight.

The game's final run came in the top of the seventh as Erie pulled ahead by four against reliever Jake Elliott. Carpio led off with a double and with two outs, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch. It was the second time in three games the Cats have given up a run to Erie on multiple wild pitch inning.

Reliever Brendan White worked a scoreless sixth with a pair of strikeouts, bridging the game to Adam Wolf. After a scoreless seventh, Wolf ran into trouble in the eighth as he walked back-to-back hitters to start the frame. He struck out Barger and induced a pair of ground ball outs to Martinez and Aiello to get out of the inning with no damage.

Wolf then worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his first career save.

Gipson-Long (1-0) earned the win allowing a run on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

Moore (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in five innings.
