ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER WALK OFF - The Portland Sea Dogs and Richmond Flying Squirrels had another pitchers duel last night resulting in a 1-0 walk-off victory in the tenth inning for the Sea Dogs. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Elih Marrero was the runner placed at second base. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by the pinch hitter Ricardo Cubillan. Tyler Dearden then clubbed a walk-off single to right centerfield and the Sea Dogs won, 1-0.

PITCHING HOLDS UP - Last night, Thaddeus Ward tossed 5.0 shutout innings for the Sea Dogs allowing two hits while walking two and striking out four. Oddanier Mosqueda tossed 2.0 shutout innings in relief allowing one hit while walking one and striking out one. Jacob Wallace earned his third win of the season for the Sea Dogs pitching for the final two innings with two strikeouts.

STREAK STAYS ALIVE - Tyler Dearden salvaged his on base streak last night with the walk off single in the bottom of the tenth inning, extending his streak to now 13 games. Dearden is hitting .364 during that time with four doubles, two home runs and six RBI. He has also drawn eight walks and has struck out 14 times. Dearden has also collected five multi-hit games since starting the streak, racking up two hits in each of those games.

HOW DID THE MAJOR LEAGUERS FARE? - Kiké Hernandez recorded the first hit of the game for the Sea Dogs with a single in the fourth inning. He finished the night 1-for-2 with a groundout. Tyler Danish tossed 1.0 inning in relief walking one batter and not allowing a run or a hit.

ON-BASE MACHINE - Stephen Scott has frequented the base paths over the last 16 games, posting a .273 average and a .469 on-base percentage. Overall, he is 12-for-48, with three doubles, one triple, and four homers. Although those numbers are good, Scott has used his plate vision to find success, working 17 walks and struck out just nine times over the last 15 games. His time spent on base has resulted in 13 runs scored while driving in nine runs on his own.

STILL TOP DOGS - With their second straight victory yesterday, the Sea Dogs remain in first place in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. The Somerset Patriots are in second place, 0.5 games behind Portland while the Hartford Yard Goats are in third place, 2.5 games out of first place. The Bowie Baysox are currently in first place in the Southwest Division, 1.0 games ahead of the Erie SeaWolves.

HAMILTON KEEPS SWIPING BASES - David Hamilton currently leads the Eastern League in stolen bases with 51 while Anthony Volpe (Somerset) has the second-most amount with 38. Hamilton is tied for the second-most amount of stolen bases in franchise history (Luis Castillo, 1996) while the franchise record is 64 (Julio Ramirez, 1999).

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - August 11, 2003 - Justin Sherrod hit a two-out, pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the ninth inning to give the Sea Dogs a thrilling 5-3 win at Reading. It was only the third pinch-hit grand slam in Portland franchise history.

PITCHING MATCHUP - RHP Brian Van Belle will take the mound today for the Portland Sea Dogs. He last pitched August 5th against Erie and tossed 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five. He gave up one home run. Van Belle has faced the Flying Squirrels once on June 23rd in the first game of a doubleheader in Richmond. He pitched 5.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven and issued one walk. The lone home run was by Frankie Tostado leading off the second inning. ‚¬Å
