
Akron Falls Short of Another Comeback as Bowie Wins 4-2

The Akron RubberDucks and Bowie Baysox donned their Copa de la Diversion identities on Thursday night as Cangrejos Fantasmas de Chesapeake used strong pitching and defense to defeat Los Perros Calientes de Akron 4-2 at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Already holding a 1-0 lead in the fourth, Cangrejos Fantasmas looked for more. A Cody Roberts two-out double brought home Hudson Haskin before Maverick Handley scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0 Chesapeake.
Mound Presence
Thomas Ponticelli got the start for Akron and looked strong early retiring the first six men in a row to open the game. Cangrejos Fantasmas struck for one in the third and two in the fourth off of Ponticelli to close his final line at four innings allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out five. Jerson Ramirez followed with a scoreless inning striking out two. Manuel Alvarez tossed two innings allowing one run. Brett Daniels followed with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Duck Tales
Los Perros Calientes got on the board in the fifth when Bryan Lavastida singled home Jose Tena to cut the Cangrejos Fantasmas lead to 3-1. Akron cut the lead in half in the eighth when Jhonkensy Noel doubled home Micah Pries to make it 4-2 Chesapeake. Akron got two on in the ninth before a double play and strikeout ended the comeback attempt.

Pries extended his hitting streak to six games...The loss snapped Akron's five game winning streak...Game Time: 2:43...Attendance: 3,988.
On the Pond
The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Bowie Baysox on Friday, August 12 at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Right-handed pitcher Tanner Burns (2-3, 3.36 ERA) will take the mound for Akron against Bowie righty Justin Armbruester (2-0, 3.89 ERA).
