Ponies Battle Back But Fall Late to Curve on Thursday

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-24, 39-65) were able to fight back from down 6-2 to tie the game at six in the eighth, but Jared Triolo's RBI single scoring Matt Fraizer in the ninth proved to be the winning tally as the Altoona Curve (18-18, 51-54) won 8-6 on Thursday evening at Mirabito Stadium.

Fraizer started the Altoona ninth with a walk and stolen base then Triolo followed with the single to left on a 2-2 pitch from Joe Zanghi (1-1), giving the Curve the lead. One more run followed on an Endy Rodriguez single to put Altoona ahead 8-6.

Down 6-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Ponies scored two runs in the sixth on an error and a walk. They later scored a run in the seventh and eighth courtesy of Hayden Senger's long home run to right and Cody Bohanek scoring on a drop third strike wild pitch to tie the game.

Altoona scored three runs in the first, highlighted by Blake Sabol's two-run triple. Sabol finished the game 2-4. Aaron Shackelford also hit his third two-run homer in as many nights in the sixth to put the Curve ahead 6-2.

Rowdey Jordan hit his first home run at the AA level with a towering blast in the first and Matt Winaker added an RBI double scoring Zach Ashford in the second to cut the Altoona lead to 3-2.

Colin Selby (1-2) picked up the win for Altoona pitching two innings surrendering two hits and a run while striking out two.

The Ponies will continue their series with the Altoona Curve on Friday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Ashford went 2-5 with a run scored. Antonio Santos pitched two scoreless frames giving up a hit and striking out two.
