Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, NE - After going 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 men on base, the Round Rock Express (53-44) were shut out by the Omaha Storm Chasers (44-52) for the second time this season 2-0 Saturday night at Werner Park.
Express starter Brad Mills fired five innings of one-run ball while the bullpen added three more but the offense was unable to find the key hit throughout the night off the Omaha pitching staff.
Still tied 0-0 in the third, center fielder Jared Hoying and catcher Jose Felix singled back-to-back to start the frame. Two outs later, second baseman Yangervis Solarte drew a walk to load the bases but designated hitter Manny Ramirez flew out to center, ending the threat.
The Storm Chasers broke through off Mills in the bottom of the inning, using a two-out rally to snap the scoreless draw. A two-out double by shortstop Christian Colon started the scoring opportunity and designated hitter Max Ramirez capitalized with a RBI single one batter later to give Omaha a 1-0 lead.
Mills retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth, exiting the game in favor of right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh out of the bullpen. Rodebaugh found trouble immediately as Ramirez doubled to lead off the sixth before later scoring on a fielder's choice to give the Storm Chasers a two-run cushion. Rodebaugh blanked the Storm Chasers in the seventh before Justin Miller finished off the night for the Round Rock staff with a scoreless eighth.
Felix started an Express rally in the seventh, leading off the inning with a double but was stranded after the next three batters in the Round Rock lineup went down in order.
The Express put one runner on base over the final two innings of offense, suffering their eighth shutout of the season. Though he was stellar, Mills (7-5) was tagged with his fourth straight loss and fifth on the year.
The Express and Storm Chasers conclude a four-game set Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Round Rock will send right-hander Evan Meek (3-4, 4.50 ERA) to the mound to face Omaha's Chris Dwyer (6-7, 3.45 ERA).
