Rainiers Fall To Reno, 4-1

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers struggled early and never recovered in a 4-1 loss to the Reno Aces at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.

The Aces tallied an insurmountable four unanswered runs over the game's first two innings. Outfielder Juan Rivera drew a bases-loaded walk to give Reno a 1-0 lead in the first. Alfredo Marte added another with a sacrifice fly later in the frame.

Tacoma's deficit grew to 4-0 after allowing two more runs in the second. Tony Campana hit an RBI triple that scored Josh Wilson, and Chris Owings plated Campana on a ground out.

The Rainiers scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh inning when infielder Nate Tenbrink lined a double to right field that scored Carlos Triunfel.

Third baseman Scott Savastano led a Rainiers lineup that combined to collect eight hits. Savastano went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles to stretch his hitting streak to a season-high four games.

Chance Ruffin (0-1) was dealt the loss in his 2013 Rainiers debut. The right-hander surrendered four runs on five hits over 4.1 innings, and struck out three with three walks issued.

At 55-41, Tacoma continues to boast the best record in the Pacific Coast League and now owns a two-game lead over the Salt Lake Bees for first place in the Pacific Northern Division.

The Rainiers host the third game of a four-game series against Reno (39-57) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, July 12. Left-hander James Paxton (6-6, 4.63) is slated to start for Tacoma tomorrow against Aces right-hander Mike Bolsinger (3-3, 4.54).
