July 13, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
Game 1
The Tucson Padres improved their doubleheader record to 4-2 on the season after winning both games Friday against the Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Field. Tucson's first place in the Southern Division increased to three games over Sacramento.
Tyson Ross pitched five shutout innings to lead the Padres to a 6-0 win over the 51s in the first game of the doubleheader. The shutout victory was the fourth of the season for Tucson.
The Padres struck first in the second inning with a two-out rally highlighted by Daniel Robertson's RBI single. Robertson picked up his second RBI of the game in the fourth with another single, followed by Ross' RBI hit to extend Tucson's lead to 3-0. Three more runs came around for the Padres in the seventh, aided by a Las Vegas fielding error and wild pitch.
Ross earned the win after limiting the 51s to three hits and four walks in his first game back with Tucson. Relievers Brad Boxberger and Colt Hynes closed out the victory with two scoreless innings of relief. D.J. Mitchell took the loss after yielding three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Game 2
The Tucson Padres secured a doubleheader sweep in the second game behind two home runs for a 5-4 extra-inning win over the Las Vegas 51s. The Padres are now 5-2 on the season in extra-inning contests.
Eric Campbell put the 51s ahead 1-0 in the second with a solo home run past left field. Las Vegas added to its lead in the third on Jamie Hoffmann's RBI infield single. Cody Decker knotted the score at 2-2 in the fourth with a two-run home run over the left field wall. Decker's home run was his team-leading 11th of the year and the 100th of his professional career.
The 51s regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth off Rylan Sandoval's two-out RBI single. Kalian Sams crushed a pinch-hit two-run homer in the fifth to give the Padres their first lead of the game. Francisco Pena lined an RBI single to center in the bottom of the seventh forcing the game to extra innings. Ben Francisco scored on Jonathan Galvez's RBI fielder's choice in the top of the eighth and reliever Ryan Kelly retied the side in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory for Tucson.
Kevin Quackenbush won his fourth game with the Padres, while Las Vegas reliever Robert Carson took the loss. Tucson starter Robbie Erlin allowed two earned runs off nine hits, while striking out seven in four innings.
