BROOKLYN, NY - James Nelson's RBI single in the second inning provided the difference as the Hudson Valley Renegades topped the Brooklyn Cyclones, 1-0, on Thursday night at Maimonides Park.
Brandon Lockridge reached on an error with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. With two out, Nelson singled to left to score Lockridge with the game's only run.
The Renegades limited Brooklyn to two hits and one walk, facing just two over the minimum. The Cyclones got a runner to third base just once - in the fourth inning - but stranded him.
Nelson had two of the three hits for Hudson Valley.
On the mound, Mitch Spence allowed a hit and a walk, striking out five in four innings of work. Barrett Loseke earned the win (2-1), working four innings allowing a hit and striking out five. Zach Greene pitched a quiet ninth to pick up his first save.
The Renegades are 3.5 games behind Aberdeen in the High-A East North Division.
The series between the Gades and Cyclones continues on Friday night.
