Howlett, Greenville Rides By Winston-Salem, 6-2

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Brandon Howlett roped three doubles on a four-hit night while Devlin Granberg plated two runs and the Drive offense broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with three runs to win, 6-2, Thursday night at Truist Stadium.

To begin the eighth, Cole Brannen and Christian Koss singled. That brought up Cam Cannon who lined an RBI single to right for the first run of the frame. After a strikeout, Brandon Howlett singled home a run. With runners on the corners, Devlin Granberg brought his second run of the game home on a sac fly to take a 5-2 lead.

For the night, Greenville compiled 10 hits, four coming off the bat from Howlett, three doubles and two RBI. Brannen tallied two hits and an RBI on the evening. Granberg drove in two runs without a hit. Cannon also registered an RBI with one hit.

Brian Van Belle got the start for the Drive and earned the win, his second of his career. The right hander hurled 5.0 shutout innings and relented just two hits with no walks. He fanned one. Zach Bryant was credited with a hold after 1.0 perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Cooper Bradford took the loss after surrendering the three runs in the eighth inning. Johan Dominguez started for Winston-Salem and tossed 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Greenville took the first lead of the ballgame in the fourth inning. Tyler Esplin stroked a one-out single and advanced to third on a Howlett double. The following batter, Granberg, grounded a ball to shortstop for an RBI.

The Drive pushed their lead to 2-0 in the sixth frame. With two outs in the inning, Esplin walked with two outs. Howlett then lined an RBI double to center field.

However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Dash tied the game on a Lenyn Sosa two-run homer.

But the tie game didn't last long as the Drive scored three runs in the eighth.

An inning later, Brannen singled home the sixth run of the game for Greenville.

Game four is slated for Thursday night at 7:00 pm in Winston-Salem. Greenville is scheduled to throw left-hander Chris Murphy while Winston-Salem is set to send right-hander Isaiah Carranza to the mound.
