Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - The M-Braves and D-Jaxx split a doubleheader at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. The Braves got a complete game shutout in game one while the D-Jaxx got a complete game shutout in game two. West Tenn got only two hits in game one and the Braves got only two hits in game two.
The M-Braves went right to work in game one Tuesday night. Matt Young singled and Travis Jones followed with a walk to start the rally. A double steal put both runners in scoring position and a JC Boscan single scored them both. After one, the Braves led 2-0.
Jones struck again in the third when he blasted his third homer of the year into the Braves' bullpen. The solo shot was his third of the year and it gave Mississippi a 3-0 lead. Mississippi added two more runs in the fifth when Young singled home Gorkys Hernandez and then scored on throwing error by Brent Johnson. After five, the Braves led 5-0.
Kyle Cofield was outstanding for the M-Braves as he threw a complete game shutout to earn his fourth win of the year.
Luis Munoz took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits through five innings. Marwin Vega came on to throw one scoreless inning.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie through four innings in game two, but the D-Jaxx broke through in the fifth. Marshall Hubbard reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Ogui Diaz drew a walk. Oswaldo Navarro singled to right bringing Hubbard to the plate with the game's first run.
Jeff Lyman got the start in game two and was stellar through four innings. In all, he allowed a run on three hits through 4.2 innings and fell to 4-4 on the year. Bryan Dumesnil threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Kyle Parker tossed a complete game shutout in the nightcap to earn his second win of the season.
Mississippi and West Tenn play game five of this six-game series Wednesday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05. Mississippi's Jonny Venters (2-4, 3.42) will take on West Tenn's Danny Christensen (0-2, 5.65).
