
Diamond Jaxx Split Double-Header with Braves Thanks to Kyle's

PEARL, MISS. (JUNE 2, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (22-30) pick up a split in the double-header Tuesday night at Trustmark Park with the Mississipppi Braves (24-29). The Kyle's (Kyle Cofield for the Braves and Kyle Parker for the Jaxx) put on two outstanding pitching performances dealing complete game shutouts. In game one, the Braves and Cofield shutout the Jaxx, 5-0 and in game two, Parker and the Jaxx shutout the Braves, 1-0.
Game One: Kyle Cofield (4-2) threw a complete game shutout against the Jaxx in game one of the double-header. Cofield gave up just two hits, and those were the first two batters of the game. He sat down 16 in a row at one time. Cofield goes seven innings, allows no runs, two hits, strikes out three and walks one.
J.C. Boscan drove in Matt Young and Travis Jones in the bottom of the first giving the Braves an early 2-0 lead. Matt Young singled with one out and Travis Jones walked putting two aboard. The double steal put Jones at second and Young at third.
In the bottom of the third inning, with two outs, Travis Jones took a 2-2 pitch from Luis Munoz and dispensed it over the left field wall giving the Braves a 3-0 lead.
Mississippi picked up a pair of runs in the fifth inning as well. Gorky's Hernandez scored on a base hit by Matt Young. Young came around to score on a fly out by Travis Jones. He advanced to third on the play then home on the errant throw by Brent Johnson. Hernandez led the inning off with his 11th double of the season and second of the series.
Luis Munoz (1-2) took the loss for the Jaxx. Munoz was making his first start since May 23rd and gave up four earned runs, struck out three and walked one. For the Braves, J.C. Boscan led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
Game Two:
Kyle Parker (2-2) put on the pitching performance in game two, dealing a complete game shutout. Parker went all seven innings, striking out two and walking two. Parker picked up his first win since April 22nd against the Tennessee Smokies. Parker has given up just six runs in his last five starts, but just has the one win to show for it.
The Jaxx scored first in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI base hit by Oswaldo Navarro. The hit scored Hubbard, who ran through a stop sign at third. In the inning, Jeff Lyman walked Hubbard and Ogui Diaz.
Oswaldo Navarro led the Jaxx at the plate in game two going 3-for-3 with the one RBI. Ogui Diaz was 2-for-2 with a walk.
Game five of this six game series in five days comes up Wednesday night at Trustmark Park, beginning at 7:05. LHP Danny Christensen (0-2, 5.65) starts for the Diamond Jaxx. He will be opposed by LHP Johnny Venters (2-4, 3.42)
