Mobile BayBears News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - After seeing their nine-game winning streak burst on Monday night at AT&T Field, the BayBears attempted to start anew on Tuesday but their bats were quiet again in a 4-1 defeat to the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Indiana natives Jarrod Parker (3-3) and Josh Lindblom (3-3) were both sharp on the hill, but Parker bent first in the bottom of the fourth as he walked the bases loaded to set up a two-out, two-run single by Adam Godwin, putting the Lookouts (22-30) on the board. Perhaps the most damaging free pass in that inning from Parker was to Lindblom with two outs.
Lindblom wouldn't return the favor as he mowed through the BayBears (31-22) in five scoreless frames while scattering just three singles. Lindblom left the contest after retiring the last 10 batters he faced. Parker also set himself to cruise control in his final two innings, retiring his last seven hitters including a dominating sixth where his fastball touched 98 mph multiple times.
In the top of the sixth, the BayBears tallied against reliever Tim Corcoran as Pedro Ciriaco singled to lead off the frame and worked his way around to third. He came home on a hit by Sean Coughlin to cut the Chattanooga lead in half, but after Orlando Mercado singled, the BayBears stranded both men to end the threat.
Chattanooga pulled away in the seventh with four singles, the third by Josh Bell which brought home Justin Sellers. Earlier in that at-bat, Daniel Stange balked home the third Lookout run as Godwin touched the dish to make it 3-1. That was plenty of insurance for the Chattanooga bullpen as Francisco Felix (S, 2) rattled off a pair of scoreless innings to close it out.
The Mobile BayBears have produced nearly 100 players to the major leagues, and they'll play game four of their series in Chattanooga on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. central time as Cody Evans (2-5, 5.25) gets the start. The BayBears return home on Friday, June 5 to battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05 p.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
