Northwoods Traverse City Pit Spitters

Pit Spitters Top Booyah on Opening Day

May 28, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters didn't wait for the game to be over to bring the fireworks on opening night at Pit Spitters Park. Behind a pair of first inning hits and walks, the Pit Spitters staked out a first inning lead that they would never relinquish.

Opening Day ended with a 2-1 victory over conference rivals Green Bay Booyah Tuesday night before a crowd of over 2,200 loud and engaged Pit Spitters fans. The Pit Spitters wasted no time getting the offense party started putting the first three batters on and scoring twice on and RBI single by second basemen Mario Camilletti and fielders choice by catcher Adam Proctor.

Two runs proved to be enough for the Pit Spitters pitching staff as start Chase Wheatcroft dominated over six innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out five. He gave way to consecutive scoreless innings by Kyle Jones, Cade Heil, and John Beuckelaere.

After the tense first inning, Booyah starter Nick Riggle settled down to record four consecutive scoreless innings. The Booyah pulled one run back in the fourth inning behind a Jacob Buchberger sacrifice fly, but that would conclude the scoring.

The Pit Spitters and Booyah will be back at it again tomorrow to wrap up their two game series.
