Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose two in a row, dropping to a 13-6 record after a 9-2 loss to the Rockford Rivets in front of 1,912 fans this evening at Turtle Creek Stadium. The pitching struggles continue for the Pit Spitters and for the second straight night they give up at least nine runs in the last two games.

The Pit Spitters pitching couldn't keep the Rivets offense off the base paths as they drew, nine walks, and got on base eight times. The Rivets offense struck early when, starting pitcher Matthew Mebane kicked off the Rivets scoring in the top of the first with a sacrifice groundout to second baseman, Jack Crighton, bringing in their first run of the evening to give them an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, Rivets right fielder Braden Duhon singled to right field bringing across two more runs to make it a 3-0 ball game. Duhon struck again in the top of the fourth inning as he singled to right field again, bringing across two more runs to extend the Rivets lead to 5-0. The Pit Spitters pitching was able to hold the Rivets offense at bay until the top of the seventh, when Aaron Harper drew a walk with bases loaded bringing in a runner to make it 6-0. The next at-bat, Tony Lindwedel was hit by a pitch, resulting in another run to come across to give the Rivets a 7-0 lead. Bradley White then grounded out to the shortstop while two runs came across to give the Rivets a commanding 9-0 lead. The Pit Spitters put something together in the bottom half of the seventh inning, as Glenn Miller singled to right field, scoring two to reduce the Rivets lead 9-2. The next at-bat, Colin Summerhill hit a sacrifice fly to bring across one more to make it a 9-3 game. The offense squeezed out their last run of the night on a Dylan Carey single to left field, to make it 9-4. Ultimately, the bottom of the ninth played out without an offensive retort from the Pit Spitters to close the gap, resulting in a Rivets win.

The Pit Spitters drop to 13-6 on the season, as the Rivets improve to 12-7. Pit Spitters starting pitcher Carson Fischer (1-1) made his fourth start of the season. Fischer threw four innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks, punching out four. Evan Waters (0-0) came in for relief and threw two innings and a third, giving up three runs on three hits, walking four, and striking out three. Holden Wilder (0-0) made his second straight pitching appearance, pitching two thirds of an inning, giving up one run. Aaron Forrest (1-0) made his first appearance out of the bullpen throwing an inning of scoreless ball striking out two. Easton Johnson (0-0) also made his second straight appearance, walking one in an inning of scoreless ball.
