
Pirates Steal One From Admirals

NORFOLK, VA - Three unanswered goals in the third period by the Portland Pirates (23-20-2-5) led to a 4-2 loss for the Norfolk Admirals (36-12-4-1) on Saturday night in front of 8,174 fans at Norfolk Scope.
After a scoreless opening period, Danny Richmond gave the Admirals the lead with a power play goal just 14 seconds into the second period. Tim Brent knotted the game at one goal apiece ten minutes later with a man advantage marker at 10:58. Dustin Byfuglien beat Portland goaltender Mike Wall during a five-on-three Norfolk power play at 16:39 to give the Admirals a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Joe Motzko squared the game at two goals apiece as he sent a shot past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford just 14 seconds into the final frame. Simon Ferguson tallied the game-winner for the Pirates with just 2:52 left in regulation. The Pirates sealed the Admirals' fate with a Ryan Carter empty-net shorthanded goal with just six seconds remaining.
Crawford (34 shots, 31 saves) was saddled with the loss. Wall (31 shots, 29 saves) picked up the victory.
The Admirals were 2-6 on the power play. Albany was 1-3.
The Admirals will return to Scope on Wednesday night for the final game of a six-game homestand. They will then depart on a ten-game road trip that will see them away from Norfolk until March 7.
