Hershey Bears News Release

The BEARS returned home Saturday night and dispatched the Albany River Rats 4-0 at GIANT Center. The win gave HERSHEY the club's 32nd win of the season, and gave the BEARS 74 points in the East Division standings. Coupled with a Norfolk regulation loss at home against Portland, the BEARS stand just three points back of first place with a game in hand.

HERSHEY gained the early offensive momentum and built up a 2-0 lead after one period. Dave Steckel scored his 20th goal of the season at the 10:03 mark of the first on the power play. The unassisted goal gave the BEARS a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, HERSHEY carried the offensive momentum into the Albany zone to strike for an even strength marker. Deryk Engelland scored his second goal of the season from a shot at the right point from Jakub Klepis and Trevor Byrne at 12:10. The BEARS fired 13 shots in the first period at Albany goaltender Tyler Weiman, and carried a 2-0 lead into the dressing room.

The BEARS poured it on during the second, scoring two more goals on 11 shots. Steckel scored his second of the game and 21st of the season at 10:01 of the second. Chad Wiseman then scored his 15th of the season on a two-on-one in the final minute of the period at 19:31. HERSHEY took a healthy 4-0 lead into the final 20 minutes of the game. Neither team would score in the third period as the BEARS won for the sixth straight time against Albany this season.
