Bristol State Liners News Release

In a crucial doubleheader featuring playoff implications, the Bristol Pirates were swept by the Kingsport Mets -- losing 7-6 in Game 1 and 13-6 in Game 2.

The doubleheader sweep leaves the Pirates two games behind the Mets for second place and a playoff spot in the Appalachian League West Division with seven games remaining in the regular season. With the sweep, the Mets now hold the tiebreaker over the Pirates with a 5-3 season-series record heading into Thursday's finale.

In Game 1, Bristol took a 3-1 lead on a three-run home run from Patrick Dorrian in the fourth inning, and extended their lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Zac Susi. After starter Colin Selby allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Luis Nova came on in relief and allowed three runs on three walks while recording no outs as the Mets took a 7-4 lead. The Pirates scored twice in the top of the seventh before Mikell Granberry popped out in foul territory to end the game.

The Mets quickly took a 12-0 lead after three full innings in Game 2, as the Pirates did not get their first hit until the fourth inning. Bristol put together a six-run fourth inning that was capped off by a two-run single from Victor Ngoepe. It would be the last time the Pirates would score in the loss, as they were held to just two walks over the final three innings.

Steven Jennings earned the loss in his shortest start of the year, allowing a career-high nine runs -- six earned -- on seven hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings.

The Pirates (29-32) will face the Mets on Thursday night in the series finale. On Friday, the Pirates return to Bristol for their final home stand of the season, beginning with a three-game series against the Elizabethton Twins before ending the year with three games against the Danville Braves.
