
Pirates Drop 3-1 Decision to P-Bruins

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates (26-18-1-0) skated to a 3-1 setback against the Providence Bruins (21-15-8-2) Saturday Night at Cross Insurance Arena.
Chris Casto riffled a slap shot from the point beating Pirates' Mike McKenna glove side to put the Bruins on the board. Linus Arnesson and Frankie Vatrano were credited with the assists.
Alexander Khokhlachev extended the P-Bruins lead 2-0 just 0:31 into the second period, with help from Ben Youds.
Portland's persistence paid off, as Greg McKegg finally broke through backup goalie Zane McIntyre with less than a minute remaining in period. Malcolm Subban had been tabbed as the starting goalie for the P-Bruins but suffered an upper body injury during warm-ups. Portland native Joe Parker dressed as back up for Providence. Parker happened to be in the audience before being called up from his local men's league.
The Pirates had multiple opportunities in the third period but were unable to score the equalizer.
Frank Vatrano forced a turnover and scored the empty-net goal for the 3-1 final with 0:34 seconds left in regulation. Vatrano has scored at least a point a game for the Bruins since being recalled to Providence.
With the loss McKenna drops to 21-9-1, while McIntrye improves to 7-6-5.
McKenna made 36 saves in the loosing effort bringing the Gorham Saves for Charity to $6,410 so far this season.
The loss drops Portland to 26-18-1-0 on the year, while Providence improves to 21-15-8-2.
The Pirates begin a seven game road stand starting against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday night.
