February 6, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI- The P-Bruins earned a hard-fought road win against the Portland Pirates tonight, 3-1. McIntyre looked strong in net, turning away 35 of 36 shots he faced - his second most of the season.

Chris Casto put Providence on the board 14:10 into the first period with a powerful slap shot from the blue line during 4v4 play. Linus Arnesson and Frankie Vatrano were credited with the assists.

Alexander Khokhlachev doubled the P-Bruins' lead just 0:31 into the second period, assisted by Ben Youds. But the momentum swung Portland's way for a majority of the period, Greg McKegg finally ending the Pirate's goal drought in the final minute of the second.

It was a hectic third period, with both teams generating multiple close scoring opportunities. With 0:34 seconds left in regulation, Vatrano hustled to force a turnover and potted the empty netter for his 17th goal of the season. Vatrano has recorded at least a point in every game since returning to the AHL, and continues to boast a 1.06 goals per game average.

Emotions ran high throughout the game with plenty of post-whistle shoving and chirping - not completely surprising considering this was the 9th meeting between these two teams this season. Colton Hargrove dropped the gloves with Portland's Garrett Wilson in the second period and skated away with the take down.

McIntyre started in net after Malcolm Subban suffered an injury during warm ups. McIntyre looked confident between the pipes coming up big during four penalty kill situations. Portland, Maine native Joe Parker dressed as back up for Providence. Parker was in the crowd at Cross Arena and plays goalie in a local men's league.

Providence is back home at the Dunk Friday February 12th against the Hershey Bears.
