Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

GRESHAM, OR - The Yakima Valley Pippins worked out a five-run 7th inning, overcoming an early 3-1 deficit, en route to a series win over the Gresham GreyWolves, 9-3, Friday night at Oslund Field. Following Friday night's win, the Yakima Valley Pippins (6-0 in West Coast Leauge play) have now posted their best start in team history.

Gavin Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) earned the win pitching six innings in his first start, overcoming a tough first inning where he allowed three unearned runs. Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the 7th inning, the Pippins would strike for five runs on five hits, including an RBI double from Kyle Stahl (Central Washington), tying the score at three.

Jace VanDeBrake (Gonzaga) would give the Pippins their first lead since an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning on an RBI single, one of his three hits on the night. Jay Schuyler (San Diego), who extended his hit streak to seven games on an RBI double back in the first inning, made the score 4-2 on an RBI sacrifice fly.

Mitchell Morimoto (Arizona) extended the lead, 5-2, with an RBI single and then scored on an RBI base hit from Hunter Hanson (College of Idaho), who also posted three hits in the winning effort, after Morimoto stole second and third base earlier in that at-bat.

Chris Ceballos (Cal State Fullerton) added two RBIs off the bench, starting with an RBI sacrifice fly in the 7th inning, followed by an RBI single in the 9th inning making the score 9-3 Pippins. They will now look for the series sweep on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m and will then return home Sunday, June 12 vs. the Kitsap BlueJackets for Military Appreciation Night.
