Knights Lose at Wenatchee

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Shortstop Andy Atwood had an RBI for the second game in a row since joining the Corvallis Knights on Saturday in a 6-3 loss to Wenatchee that evened the West Coast League series at a game apiece.

A sophomore-to-be at Oregon State, Atwood is hitting .429 (3-7), with a homer and two RBIs, and has exceled defensively.

The Knights (5-4 all, 4-4 WCL) took a1-0 lead in the second inning on singles by Emilio Alcantar (Lewis-Clark State) and Cody Hawken (Portland) and an RBI groundout by Parker Woodley (Clark CC).

Corvallis starter Chris Carns (Clark) pitched into the sixth before allowing the first two hitters to reach safely. They both eventually scored as the AppleSox (1-7 WCL) erupted for six runs on five hits to win their first game of the season after seven consecutive losses.

Atwood's RBI single and a run-scoring error made it 6-3 in the eighth. But the Knights left the bases loaded and were retired in the ninth, ending their four-game winning streak in the rivalry over the past two seasons.

The series concludes at 6:05 p.m. today. Lefty Aaron Pope (0-1, 0.00) of Dixie State will start for the Knights, opposed by Portland lefty Grady Miller (0-1, 11.81) for Wenatchee.

The Knights open the home portion of the WCL schedule at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday against Kelowna, the 2015 WCL runner-up.
