Pippins Drop Game Two in Victoria

VICTORIA, B.C - The Yakima Valley Pippins dropped game two in their series with the Victoria HarbourCats Tuesday night, 10-3.

The Pippins (26-24) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd on an RBI single by Corey Morris. After Victoria (27-22) tied the game with a solo home run the 3rd, Yakima took another one-run lead at 2-1 in the 4th on a safety squeeze from Alex Guenette.

However, the Victoria bats got going from there. A two-run homer in the 4th gave the HarbourCats a 3-2 lead and Victoria opened up a more comfortable cushion with a four-run 5th inning, chasing starter Andrew Bernstein from the game after just 4 2/3 innings of work.

The Pippins got one last run across in the 6th on an RBI single from Freddy Smith, but Victoria capped the night with three more runs in the 8th.

Meanwhile, Corvallis won its fifth straight game Tuesday, knocking off Kelowna, 6-3. The win puts the Pippins 3.5 games back in the wildcard with four games to go. The Pippins will try and avoid a sweep at the hands of Victoria Wednesday at 6:35, with Jens Jensen getting the start for the Pippins in game three.
