Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - Ricardo Pinto gave up one run over seven innings and Deivi Grullon drove in all three BlueClaws runs as Lakewood topped Augusta 3-1 on Tuesday night in the first game of their three-game series.
Pinto (2-0), the Phillies #14 prospect per Baseball America, finished seven innings for the second time this year and third time in his career. He gave up one run on three hits and earned his second win. Alexis Rivero threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Matt Hockenberry threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Hockenberry has not allowed a run in 10 innings thus far this season.
The BlueClaws scored both their runs in the 7th inning on a two-out, two-run single by Deivi Grullon. Lakewood had the bases loaded with one out in both the first and the fifth innings, failing to score each time, and with Grullon making the last out each time. In the 7th, the same situation materialized, but after Jiandido Tromp struck out, Grullon came through with a base hit to left field.
Augusta got on the board first in the 3rd inning. Jonah Arenado tripled down the right field line and scored on a SAC fly by Andrew Cain for the first run of the game.
The BlueClaws added a run in the 9th inning on another RBI single by Grullon, who tied his career high with three RBIs.
Cord Sandberg and Carlos Tocci each had three hits for the BlueClaws, Sandberg's third and Tocci's eighth mutli-hit game of the year.
The series with Augusta continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Josh Taylor (0-1) starts for the BlueClaws against LHP Matt Gage (1-1, 4.32).
