Greenville Drive News Release
Kannapolis, NC - Behind eight strong innings from starter Jordan Guerrero, the Kannapolis Intimidators (8-10) defeated the Greenville Drive (11-8) 3-2 in game one of a three-game series at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Guerrero scattered six Drive hits in his eight innings of work, allowing just one run and two walks with five strikeouts to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Drive scored their only run against Guerrero in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead after a leadoff single by Nick Longhi and an RBI double by Rafael Devers.
Jamie Callahan (0-2) gave the Drive a solid start on the mound, striking out seven and keeping the Intimidators off the scoreboard for five innings, but he gave up a pair of runs in the sixth on RBI hits from Christian Stringer and Mason Robbins.
Kannapolis added what would prove to be a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a Louie Lechich RBI single.
The Drive made things interesting in the top of the ninth, cutting the score to 3-2 after Michael Chavis reached first after a wild pitch on a strikeout and came in on Javier Guerra's RBI double, but Brad Salgado got a popout to end the game and log his second save.
Guerra and Derek Miller each picked up two hits for Greenville, while Robbins and Stringer collected a pair of hits for Kannapolis.
The teams will meet again in Kannapolis at 7:05 PM on Wednesday night. LH Jalen Beeks (0-0, 3.07) takes the ball for the Drive, and RH Spencer Adams (0-1, 6.17) starts on the mound for the Intimidators.
