ASHEVILLE, NC - The Charleston RiverDogs went scoreless over the first six innings and fell 5-1 to the Asheville Tourists in the opener of a three-game series, Tuesday night at McCormick Field.

Lefty Jordan Montgomery climbed the hill in his fourth start of the season and was greeted with a three-run first inning from the Tourists (8-11). Wes Rogers led off the game with double and scored two batters later on Drew Weeks' single. Sean Dwyer doubled home Weeks and scored himself on Dom Nunez's single, which capped off the inning.

Charleston (12-7) could not respond against the Asheville starter Zach Jemiola. The righty pitched into the sixth inning and did not allow a run on six hits, a walk, and seven strikeouts. The RiverDogs had plenty of chances to score as they put the first two batters on in the second, fifth, and sixth innings, but followed with the next three being retired, in order, to finish each of the frames.

In the seventh, Brandon Thomas hit a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Abiatal Avelino's ground out, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Trailing 5-1 in the ninth, the RiverDogs loaded the bases with one out and brought the tying run to the plate twice, but could do no damage. Dustin Fowler struck out swinging and Connor Spencer grounded into a 4-6 fielder's choice to end the game.

Montgomery (2-2) settled in after the first and threw six-plus innings allowing the three runs on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. He did not allow a hit after the first batter in the second inning. Jemiola (3-1) earned the win and former Yankees farmhand Yoely Bello picked up his first save of the season.
