
Pink in the Rink-Record 6,801 See Stingrays Thump Walleye 6-0

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (34-15-4-5) blanked the Toledo Walleye (28-22-1-3) 6-0 in front of a Pink in the Rink-record 6,801 at North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. Stingrays forward Jake Hauswirth netted three assists and goaltender Shane Connelly recorded his second straight shutout stopping all 13 Walleye shots in the win.
The Stingrays dominated the first period of play outshooting the Walleye 15 to three and grabbed a 3-0 lead. Stingrays forward Gregg Johnson opened the scoring at 11:25 knocking in a rebound between the legs of Walleye goaltender Alec Richards for his 15 goal of the season. Forward Scott Bartlett and defenseman Jason Fredricks earned assists. Winger Keith Johnson lit the lamp at 13:50 from Fredricks and forward Trent Campbell. Rookie Dain Prewitt added the final marker of the period at 14:26 with assists going to Hauswirth and forward Trevor Bruess.
Stingrays defenseman Dylan Yeo continued the scoring in the second period at 14:45 beating Richards under the left arm after receiving a beautiful pass from Hauswirth from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Bartlett registered the second assist.
Bruess added a goal of his own at 1:34 of the third period from Hauswirth and defenseman Johann Kroll. Kroll completed the game scoring with a power-play tally at 17:38 from G. Johnson and Campbell. Richards suffered his eighth loss of the season kicking away 37 of 43 Stingrays shots. The Walleye finished the contest 0-for-2 on the power play while the Stingrays went 1-for-2.
The two teams wrap up their season series tomorrow, Sunday, February 21 at 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum. Sunday is the Kid's Day featuring $5 kid's tickets and a pre-game kid's carnival.
