Pink in the Rink Game February 20th
February 13, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness the Sarnia Sting have teamed up with the Canadian Cancer Society for 'Pink in the Rink at the RBC Centre on Friday, February 20th. On Friday night, a select number of players will be using specialty pink sticks, designed and produced by CCM Hockey.
Following the game, the Sting will host a Live Auction where fans can bid and outbid others on their favorite players' game-used sticks. There will be an auctioneer at ice-level and fans are asked to gather in sections 106 & 107 where the bidding will take place. For those not in attendance on Saturday night, there will also be an online auction starting on Monday, February 23rd and running through until March 2nd.
Close to 24,000 lives were saved since the mid-1980s, thanks in part to the Society's efforts to increase screening rates and their investment in research. Community Fundraising Specialist, Paula McKinlay speaks on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society, "The Canadian Cancer Society is once again excited to be partnering with the Sarnia Sting for the 2nd annual Pink in the Rink night. The funds raised during the Pink in the Rink event on February 20, 2015 will not only add to the Society's to date $100 million dollar investment in Breast Cancer Research but will also fund screening, support and advocacy programs that will help patients and families living with a Breast Cancer diagnosis."
Sting President, Bill Abercrombie explains the importance of partnering up with the Canadian Cancer Society, "It's a cause that is near and dear to so many members of our community. Breast Cancer research has taken enormous strides in the past years, partly as a result of endeavors like this. We're thrilled to be able to get involved once again and assist in raising funds and awareness for an excellent cause."
Donations will also be accepted at the Canadian Cancer Society information table on Game Day. With a minimum donation of $1, you will be entered to win a signed, Jakob Chychrun 'Pink in the Rink' stick. We also ask that fans wear their pink on Friday night and support Breast Cancer Awareness.
