Kitchener Rangers News Release

Brandon Robinson scored a hat trick on Friday night to lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 6-3 home win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Darby Llewellyn, Mike Davies and Dylan DiPerna also scored in the victory, the Rangers' ninth straight at The Aud.

The Steelheads opened the scoring midway through the first period, when Stephen Gibson's long shot rattled by Rangers starter Dawson Carty. The Kitchener native's second of the season was assisted by team scoring leader Jimmy Lodge and Bobby MacIntyre.

Mississauga led shots on goal 13-7 after 20 minutes.

Brandon Robinson's team leading 19th of the season put the Rangers on the board 12:10 into the middle frame. The veteran winger collected Max Iafrate's pass at the net and tucked a shot under Cameron Zanussi, recording his fourth point in as many games. The second assist was credited to sophomore Mason Kohn.

Mississauga restored its lead two minutes later, taking advantage of a five minute power play opportunity and notching a pair of goals. Michael McLeod struck first, tipping Jared Walsh's shot past Carty for his seventh of the year. Second year rearguard Sean Day also picked up a helper on the play.

Brandon Devlin added the second power play marker to put the Steelheads up 3-1 before second intermission, sneaking a shot over the goal line for his 15th of the year. MacIntyre earned his second assist on the night on the goal at 17:17.

The Steelheads out-shot the Rangers 13-8 in the second period.

The Rangers opened the final frame on the man advantage and capitalized quickly, with Robinson potting his second of the game. The former Battalion forward lifted a high shot over Zanussi's left shoulder, cutting Kitchener's deficit to a single goal. Import rearguard Dmitrii Sergeev extended his recent point streak to a third game with a helper on the play. Carty also picked up an assist, his second point of the year.

The goal sparked a streak of five unanswered tallies for the home team: Robinson completed the hat trick just over three minutes later, taking advantage of heavy pressure at the Steelheads crease and hammering the puck past Zanussi to tie the game 3-3. Assists on the power play goal went to David Miller and Darby Llewellyn.

Less than two minutes later, Kitchener added a third power play maker to take its first lead of the night. Ryan MacInnis saw his shot on goal turned aside by Zanussi, but Llewellyn rushed to the net to corral the loose puck, burying the rebound behind the netminder's left pad. The third-year Rangers winger has points in four straight games, with three goals and five helpers since February 6. Robinson earned his fourth point of the game with an assist on the play.

The Rangers continued to pressure, extending their lead to 5-3 two minutes later. Miller's initial shot was blocked by the keeper, and sophomore Mike Davies pounced on the rebound, sweeping it past Zanussi for his 11th of the season. Freshman Jack Kilgour collected his first career Ontario Hockey League point with the second assist on the play.

The goal prompted a goaltending change, as Mississauga sent Jacob Brennan to the crease in relief of Zanussi.

Kitchener added a final goal 59 seconds later to secure a 6-3 win. Rearguard Dylan DiPerna's long shot through traffic fooled Brennan and soared over the goal line. Davies and Kilgour earned the assists on the Mississauga native's second of the year.

The Rangers led shots on goal 27-6 in the final frame, and finished with a 42-32 overall advantage on the shot clock. Carty made 29 saves to pick up a win against his former team.
