Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL - Outfielder Jose Pineda delivered two home runs Friday night, including a grand slam, to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 10-1 win over the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays in front of 5,141 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Pineda's six RBIs tie the mark set last week by Jeff Baisley, who had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 13 straight games. Starter Jason Ray pitched six innings to win his fourth consecutive start.

The Cougars took the lead in the second against D-Rays starter Greg Reinhard, as Steve Kleen's single and Baisley's sacrifice fly provided a 2-0 cushion. The visitors' only tally of the night was an unearned run in the fourth against Ray (5-1), who gave up four hits, walked two and struck out seven for the victory. The solid pitching continued, as Brad Kilby worked a pair of scoreless innings, and Rob Semerano made his first appearance since joining the team from extended spring training by tossing a 1-2-3 ninth.

Isaac Omura connected for a sacrifice fly in the fifth against Kevin Lynn to make it 3-1, and Pineda's first round-tripper, a two-run shot in the seventh, put the Cougars up 5-1. Kleen drove home Mike Massaro in the eighth to precede Pineda's grand slam, the first of the year for a Cougar, for the 10-1 final. Reinhard (0-5) took the loss for the Devil Rays.

The Cougars (33-21) and Southwest Michigan (26-28) play again Saturday night at 6 CDT, as Trey Shields (4-5, 6.05) faces Jeff Kamrath (0-3, 3.90).
