Evenson Joins Chiefs; Morgan on DL

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that right-handed reliever Roger Evenson has been added to the roster while catcher Justin Morgan will go on the 7-day disabled list with a strained left calf.

Evenson joins the team from extended spring training in Mesa, AZ. The 22 year old was 4-4 in Boise last season in the Northwest League with a 5.58 ERA. He made 24 appearances last season including one start and struck out 39 in 40 1/3 innings. Evenson was drafted in the 15th round in June 2005 out of Northwest Nazarene University. He is a native of Boise, ID and played his high school ball at Capital High School.

Morgan, one of three catchers on the Chiefs roster, has appeared in six games and is 3-for-11 at the plate with a double and a .273 average. Morgan has thrown out 2-of-6 would be base stealers on the season and has not allowed a passed ball. He spent seven days on the DL from May 7-14 with the same injury.

The Chiefs roster is full at 25 players heading into tonight's 6:00 PM doubleheader against Fort Wayne. The first 1500 fans tonight get a Ron Santo bobblehead courtesy of Auto Owners Insurance and the ZOOperstars will provide in-game entertainment.
