Lansing Lugnuts News Release

South Bend, Ind . - A Bryan Byrne bases loaded sacrifice fly in the eighth inning provided the only offense in the game, as the South Bend SilverHawks slipped by the Lansing Lugnuts 1-0 at Coveleski Stadium on Friday night. Lansing has now been shutout over the last 17 innings.

Three South Bend pitchers combined on the shutout, as the Lugnuts were held without a hit after the fourth inning. Vincent Bongiavanni picked up the win for the SilverHawks, tossing the final two innings of the game.

Lansing starter Russ Savickas extended his scoreless inning streak to 12 by throwing five innings and scattering three hits while fanning five.

Each team had opporotunities to take the lead in the game at different points. Lansing put runners at first and second base in the fourth, but left a runner at third base to end the frame. It was the only man that Lansing would get to third all evening.

The SilverHawks twice had chances with a runner at third. Justin Upton ripped a one out single to right-center field, but was stranded there after two walks loaded the bases. Then in the fifth, South Bend had a runner 90 feet away with two out, but a Leyson Septimo flyout allowed Lansing to escape again.

Lansing (33-20) and South Bend (26-27) will continue the four game series on Saturday night. Aaron Tressler (2-2, 1.63) will start for the Lugnuts, while Anthony Cupps (3-3, 6.11) will take the hill for the SilverHawks. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
