Pigs Take Opener against Durham
August 13, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Lehigh Valley jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and took the homestand opener 10-3 against the Durham Bulls on Monday at Coca-Cola Park. Dean Anna blasted his first home run of the season and scored three runs to set the table for the offense
The IronPigs gave Enyel De Los Santos (10-4) plenty of support against Ryan Weber (7-5), scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second, they added four more runs on RBI hits by Jiandido Tromp, Jesmuel Valentin and Mitch Walding put the Pigs up six.
Valentin finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Danny Ortiz, who went 1-for-4, extended his hitting streak to eight games and is hitting over .500 during that time. Lehigh Valley had five players collect multi-hit games -- Dean Anna, Valentin, Walding, Joey Meneses and Zach Green. The first four hitters in the lineup combined to go 8-for-14.
Dean Anna hit his first home run in 391 at-bats as an IronPig. The last time Anna homered was June of 2017 against El Paso as a member of the Omaha Stormchasers. In the bottom of the sixth, Anna homered into right-field to end the drought and was met by an empty dugout as his Pigs teammates all fled to the tunnel.
Zach Green capped off the scoring for the Pigs with a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning. This was Green's second home run in Triple-A and his 19th overall in 2018. He finished the game with six total bases and two RBI.
De Los Santos went six innings on his way to his 10th win of the year. He struck out three and allowed six hits and three runs. Tyler Gilbert and Tom Windle combined to toss three-innings and allow one hit in relief.
Tuesday will be CrossFit Night at Coca-Cola Park and 3,000 fans 18 and older will receive a Baseball & Bacon T-Shirt presented by IGS Energy. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Tom Eshelman takes the hill four the Pigs as they look to move their magic number into single digits.
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can get closer to the team than ever before with a Bacon, USA membership -- a year-round IronPigs experience pass featuring numerous amenities such as savings on parking at games and at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Coca-Cola Park, on-field VIP access to watch batting practice, access to the annual holiday party, and more.
