Today's Game

This evening, the Bisons face the Charlotte Knights in the first game of a three-game series. Their seven-game road trip through the IL South will continue when the team takes on the Gwinnett Stripers for four games. The Herd will have a scheduled off-day on Monday before returning home for their final homestand of the 2018 season to face division rivals Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (August 21-23) and Pawtucket Red Sox (August 24-27).

Last Game: BUF 5, TOL 4 (10)

OF Dwight Smith Jr. knocked in three of the Bisons' five runs on the afternoon including OF Jonathan Davis twice. Davis crossed the plate on Smith's second double in the bottom of the tenth to walk it off for the Herd. INF Tim Lopes had two hits on the day including a run and two stolen bases. RHP Murphy Smith tossed five innings giving up one run on four hits.

Charlotte (1-2)

The Bisons and Knights will play their final series of the season. The two teams last played June 1-3 at Coca-Cola Field. Of the thirteen Buffalo hitters who played in the June series, all but three had at least one RBI.

Today's Starter: RHP Jacob Waguespack

RHP Jacob Waguespack heads to the mound for the third time with the Bisons. The righty is coming off his first victory with his new team after throwing 5.1 innings in the team's 6-1 victory against Gwinnett on August 8th. Waguespack has 18 strikeouts in 11.2 innings with the Herd.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was named the International League Batter of the Week for the week of August 6-12. The slugger went 11-24 (.458AVG) with four home runs, five RBIs and a 1.000 slugging pct. He becomes the third Bisons' player to have Player of the Week honors this season (LHP Ryan Borucki, June 18-24, and RHP Sean Reid-Foley, July 16-22). INF Jason Leblebijian was the last Bison to have Batter of the Week honors (May 29-June 4, 2017).

Jose Fernandez

LHP Jose Fernandez tossed an inning and a third on Sunday to extend his scoreless streak to eight games (11.0 IP) The lefty last yielded a run on July 19 against Durham. Fernandez has thirteen strikeouts and only three walks and three hits in the current span.

Transactions

On Sunday, C Danny Jansen and RHP Sean Reid-Foley were both promoted to Toronto. C Michael De La Cruz was activated off the Disabled List and RHP Claudio Custodio was added from Dunedin.

Tim Mayza

LHP Tim Mayza picked up his sixth win of the season on Sunday. Mayza now has three victories in August, tying his career high in wins in one month (3 in May of this season). The lefty have appeared in five games this month (8.0 IP) and has a 2.25 ERA.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (53-64) won the final game of their homestand with a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Both runs came in the bottom of the sixth with 2B Devon Travis and OF Randal Grichuk knocking them in. The Jays now head to the road and will visit the Kansas City Royals for four games, followed by three at Yankee Stadium. RHP Sean Reid-Foley will make his Major League debut as he faces RHP Brad Keller (8:15 p.m.).
