Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
A three-RBI day by Trevor Plouffe and seven innings of one-run ball by Enyel De Los Santos (5-1) propelled the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to the 4-3 win against the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday night. Three runs in the bottom of the second put the Pigs in front for good at Coca-Cola Park.
The Pigs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against the Red Wings and former Phillies' farm hand Trevor May (0-2), who was making a Good Shepherd rehab appearance. After he retired the first four hitters, Dylan Cozens worked a walk to bring up Trevor Plouffe.
Plouffe, who homered for the first time as a Pig Monday night, blasted a towering two-run home run to give Lehigh Valley the 2-0 lead. Following an Andrew Pullin double, Alexi Amarista tripled high off the wall in right field to put the Pigs up 3-0.
Plouffe continued to burn his former organization in the sixth inning with the Pigs leading 3-0. With Cozens on first, Plouffe doubled to right-center for his second extra base hit of the day and third RBI.
De Los Santos was brilliant once again in his eighth start for the Pigs. He struck out five and allowed just one run in his final inning of work. Of the five hits that De Los Santos allowed, two of them came from rehabbing Miguel Sano.
After allowing a sacrifice fly in the 7th, De Los Santos got his fifth strike out to end the frame and limit the damage to just one. De Los Santos improved his IL-leading ERA to 1.39 on the season and his 49 strikeouts rank him tied for third in the league.
Tom Windle took over for De Los Santos in the 8th and leading 4-1. After a double got lost in the lights, Miguel Sano cut the Pigs lead to one. A two-run home run to deep right-center field against Windle made it 4-3.
After a walk, Gary Jones turned to his closer Pedro Beato (14) in the 8th. Beato threw one pitch in the inning and induced a double play to end the threat. After tossing a perfect ninth, Beato closed the door the Pig's fifth straight win.
The Pigs go for the series win tomorrow night with Tom Eshelman on the mound. Prior to the game, 5,000 fans will receive a team photo compliments of Nacci Printing for around the Coca-Cola Park concourse from 5:30-6:15 (all gates open at 5:30 p.m.). Wednesday is also the kick off of our two-day Hispanic Heritage Celebration presented by La Mega Radio. The Pigs will don Tocinos jerseys and caps which will be available via auction and raffle respectively.
