Rochester Red Wings News Release
Miguel Sano went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer but a late Rochester rally fell short as the Red Wings fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-3 Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Sanó's homer was his first in four games since joining the Red Wings (21-18) on a rehab assignment. He has not played in the major leagues since April 27 after injuring his left hamstring.
Trevor May (0-2) made his second rehab start with Rochester and third overall as he returns from "Tommy John" surgery early in 2017. After working a perfect 1st inning, May issued a one-out walk before former Wing Trevor Plouffe made it 2-0 with his second home run in as many games. Alexi Amarista would add a two-out RBI triple and the IronPigs (25-17) led 3-0.
That's all the damage May would allow over 4.0 innings. All three hits and one of the two walks he allowed came in that frame.
Plouffe would make it 4-0 with an RBI double in the 6th off Adalberto Mejia, who came off the disabled list earlier today. He had not pitched since April 25 after landing on the DL with a blister.
Rochester struggled once again to get anything going offensively against Lehigh Valley starter Enyel De Los Santos (5-1). The hard-throwing right-hander surrendered just five hits and one walk while striking out five in 7.0 innings. The lone run came in the 7th inning on a Taylor Featherston sacrifice fly.
Sanó's homer came after Zack Granite's fly ball to left was lost in either the fog or lights. The IronPigs brought in Pedro Beato to secure a five-out save, his league-leading 14th of the season.
Rochester will turn to Zack Littell in game three of the series tomorrow at 7:05.
