Louisville Bats News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Louisville Bats (13-28) fell to the Indianapolis Indians (23-19) by a 5-3 score Tuesday at Victory Field. The Bats dropped their fourth straight game, and fall to 7-15 on the season when scoring first in a game.
As has been the case many times this season, Louisville struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first following a Phillip Ervin leadoff single and Josh VanMeter single. Ervin reached base four times in the game, going 2-for-3 with two walks.
Bats starting pitcher, left-hander Cody Reed (0-3, 4.45) gave up two runs in the bottom of the first, with the Bats tying it in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk by Ervin. Reed finished his outing with 5.0 innings pitched, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits, walking two and striking out six on 89 pitches, 59 strikes.
The Bats took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch, before Reed gave up another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, with Indianapolis extending its lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth off Louisville reliever Kyle Crockett.
For the second straight game, the Indians bullpen shut down the Bats offense for the most part, with Louisville threatening in the game's final frame. D.J. Peterson and Gabriel Guerrero opened the ninth with back-to-back singles, but Dilson Herrera, who went 2-for-4 in the game, popped up a bunt. Rosell Herrera, who made his first appearance in a Louisville uniform since April 25, grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game as a pinch-hitter.
Right-hander Robert Stephenson (3-4, 3.89) is expected to start for Louisville tomorrow at 1:35 p.m., with Indianapolis countering with right-hander Austin Coley (1-2, 9.00).
