Pawtucket Rallies past RailRiders

PAWTUCKET R.I. - For the second straight night the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders lost an early lead to the Pawtucket Red Sox, falling 7-6 on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.

With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Pawtucket scored a pair of decisive runs off of Raynel Espinal. The inning began with a double by Mike Olt, who scored one batter later when Ramon Flores singled him home for the go-ahead run and a 6-5 lead.

Flores advanced to second base following a hit-by-pitch to Ivan De Jesus putting two runners on with no outs, before a lineout and pop out seemed to draw the end of the threat for Pawtucket. Then, PawSox outfielder Aneury Tavarez delivered an RBI single to score Flores and provide an insurance run that proved pivotal in the 9th inning when the RailRiders tried to rally.

Against Ty Buttrey, SWB came to bat trailing 7-5. He retired the first man before Shane Robinson singled to centerfield and advanced to second base on defensive indifference. After a pop out by pinch-hitter, Mike Ford, Tyler Wade punched a single to left field to score Robinson and bring it back to a one-run game.

After that single, Buttrey was pulled from the game in favor of PawSox closer Ryan Brasier. He needed just one pitch to get Clint Frazier to bounce back to the mound and end the game. The RailRiders have now lost five straight games following their three-game sweep over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Early in the game, the RailRiders offense showed some punch with a pair of two-run home runs in the 2nd inning. Adam Lind drilled an opposite-field home run to make it 2-0 before Rey Navarro got into the act with a two-run homer tucked just inside the right field foul pole for a quick 4-0 lead out of the gate.

The RailRiders and PawSox continue their series Wednesday night with a 6:15 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Pregame coverage with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino begins at 5:45 p.m.
