Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-14) dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker in 10 innings to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (16-14) on Saturday evening at PNC Field in Moosic.
Chris Parmelee's walk-off solo shot off of Pigs RHP Reinier Roibal with one out in the bottom of the 10th proved to be the difference in the game. Roibal (0.1 IP, H, R, ER) was tagged with the loss and drops to 0-1 on the year.
RHP Connor Mullee (3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and is now 3-0 on the season.
Brock Stassi's solo shot off of RailRiders starter Brady Lail in the top of the second gave the IronPigs an early 1-0 lead. The home run was Stassi's first of the season and the first of his Triple-A career.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the third as Gary Sanchez plated a run with an RBI double and later scored on Delbinson Romero's RBI single.
A three-run fourth opened up a 4-2 lead for the Pigs. Trailing 2-1, Tommy Joseph (2-4, 2 R) drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on a walk issued to Andrew Knapp and scored on Stassi's RBI double to tie things at two. Will Venable (3-4, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, R) followed Stassi (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) with a two-run double to give Lehigh Valley the lead.
The 5 RBI are the most by an IronPigs player since Sebastian Valle knocked in five on May 9, 2014 against Gwinnett.
Lail (n/d) gave up the four runs on four hits while walking three and fanning one over 3.2 IP.
Sanchez's solo shot in the bottom of the fifth off of Pigs starter Zach Eflin brought the RailRiders within 4-3.
Lehigh Valley quickly responded with a three-run shot from Venable off of LHP Tyler Olson (3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, K) in the top half of the sixth to give the Pigs a 7-3 lead for the time being.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fought back and cut the lead to 7-6 in the home half of the frame as Cesar Puello plated a pair with a two-run double and later scored on Donovan Solano's sac fly.
Eflin (n/d) gave up five runs on seven hits while walking two and fanning six in 5.1 IP.
In the bottom of the eighth, Rob Refsnyder led off with a double and later scored on Puello's RBI double to tie things at seven apiece for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
With things tied at seven apiece, the RailRiders had the potential winning run at second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but RHP Edward Mujica (2.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, K) got Romero to ground out and fanned Nick Swisher to end the threat.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (0-2, 4.94) toes the rubber for Lehigh Valley against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RHP Luis Cessa (0-0, 3.86).
