Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Led by homers from Moya and Huffman, Toledo outlasted Columbus by a score of 3-2 on a beautiful Saturday evening at Fifth Third Field. The Hens are now 12-14 on the season.

The Hens struck first in the first inning following a single off the bat of CF Cameron Maybin and a bunt single from LF Tyler Collins. 1B Casey McGehee then recorded his seventh RBI of the season, sending Maybin around to score.

Toledo threatened to add to their 1-0 lead in the second inning following singles from 2B Jordany Valdepsin and DH Wynton Bernard. Maybin nearly hit the ball out of the park, but the second out of the inning was recorded on the warning track in left field. Clippers SP Ross Detwiler then struck out SS Dixon Machado to end the threat.

RF Steven Moya pounded his eighth home of the season in the third inning, this one to right field, giving the Hens a 2-0 lead over the Clippers. Moya now has 21 RBI's on the season with a BA of .296.

3B Chad Huffman recorded his own dinger of the game later in the inning, this one to left field. That was Huffman's fourth long ball of 2016. All eyes were on the infielder in this game, as this was his first career start at third base tonight for the Hens.

The Clippers began to chip away at the Mud hens lead in the fourth inning following a double, stolen base, and an RBI single from Columbus 3B Giovanny Urshela. Columbus then added another run in the seventh inning to make the score 3-2.

Thad Weber was strong once again in his outing for Toledo, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out six. Weber's ERA now sits at 1.17 on the season. In relief for Toledo were Logan Kensing for an out in the seventh and Bobby Parnell in the eighth. After walking the first batter on four straight balls, Parnell retired the remaining Columbus batters. Bruce Rondon closed the game for the home team in the ninth.

The Mud Hens look to close out the series against Columbus on a high note tomorrow at Fifth Third Field at 2:05 p.m.
