Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Buffalo Bisons, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. The Chiefs mounted a ninth-inning rally, but Brian Goodwin flied out to the wall to end the game. Paolo Espino threw a quality start for the Chiefs in the loss, just Syracuse's third in its last 14 games.

Buffalo (12-17) grabbed the lead in the fourth inning. Matt Dominguez hit his third home run of the season out to deep left field to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead.

The game held at 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. Alexi Casilla singled to start the inning. After a pop out, Espino hit Jesus Montero with a pitch and walked Casey Kotchman to load the bases. Junior Lake followed by hitting a ground ball to short. Brendan Ryan made a diving stop and threw to third to get an out. Casilla, however, scored from third to extend the lead to 2-0.

Syracuse (17-11) could not find a run against left-hander Wade LeBlanc. The Bisons' starter allowed just six hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out six.

The Chiefs mounted a rally in the ninth off Chad Jenkins. Caleb Ramsey singled with one out. Two batters later, Jenkins struck out pinch-hitter Trea Turner, but a passed ball on Tony Sanchez allowed Turner to reach first. Syracuse took advantage, as Brendan Ryan singled home Ramsey to cut the deficit to 2-1. Buffalo went to the bullpen and brought in Colt Hynes. Hynes got Brian Goodwin to fly out to the wall in center, just feet short of a potential go-ahead hit, to seal the victory.

Syracuse can still win the series with Buffalo Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. A.J Cole is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Roberto Hernandez for the Bisons.
