Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A five-run first set the tone, Ben Lively tossed six hitless innings and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (83-57) clinched a playoff berth for the second time in franchise history with a 7-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings (80-61) on Friday night at Frontier Field.

Lively (11-5) fanned 10 over his six hitless frames. LHP Joely Rodriguez (2.0 IP, 2 BB, 3 K) and LHP Elvis Araujo (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, BB) tossed the final three innings for Lehigh Valley.

The Pigs did not allow a hit until Reynaldo Rodriguez broke up the no-hitter with two outs in the ninth via an RBI single to plate the lone run of the night for Rochester.

The only other playoff berth for the IronPigs came during the 2011 season.

In the fore-mentioned five-run first, a single, walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out before Cam Perkins and Brock Stassi came through with two-run singles in the inning while Cedric Hunter plated a run later in the frame with an RBI single.

All five runs were charged to Rochester starter Jason Wheeler (11-6) who gave up the five runs on four hits while walking a pair in 0.2 IP.

Nick Williams' solo shot in the top of the second off of RHP D.J. Baxendale (4.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 6 K) gave the Pigs a 6-0 lead. The home run was Williams' 13th of the season.

The IronPigs extended the lead to 7-0 with a run in the eighth as Hunter reached with a two-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Jesmuel Valentin's RBI single.

J.P. Crawford (3-5, 2B, R) also had a multi-hit game for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The two teams will head to Allentown to open a three-game set on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. as RHP Nick Pivetta (0-2, 3.20) gets the ball for the Pigs against Rochester RHP Tyler Duffey (1-0, 1.99).
