Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Today, the Cincinnati Reds called up four Louisville Bats pitchers, Wandy Peralta, Cody Reed, Keyvius Sampson and Robert Stephenson to the big league club as the rosters expanded from 25 to 40 players.
Wandy Peralta, who had never pitched above Double-A before this season, will make his Major League debut when he appears for the Reds in September. In 37 games, two starts, for the Bats this season Peralta was 4-1 with a 2.33 ERA and three saves. He pitched 58 innings, allowed 15 earned runs and struck out 38. The left-handed pitcher held right-handed hitters to a .211 (32-152) average with seven doubles and one home run.
Cody Reed will make his second appearance in Cincinnati after making 10 starts for the Redlegs earlier this season. In 13 starts for the Bats in 2016, Reed was 6-4 with a 3.08 ERA. Since coming back from Cincinnati in mid-August he has allowed two earned runs in eight and one-third innings pitched over two starts.
Keyvius Sampson will make his third appearance in Cincinnati after having his contract purchased earlier this season. In 18 games, nine starts, for Louisville this season, he was 3-3 with a 1.88 ERA. As a starter, he pitched 49 innings and allowed seven earned runs, good for a 1.29 ERA. From April 19 to June 2, he tossed 24 and two-thirds innings as a starter without allowing an earned run.
Robert Stephenson will be promoted for the third time this season. He began the 2016 campaign in Cincinnati and won his first two starts as a Red, becoming the first Red to do so since Larry Luebbers in 1993. In 24 starts for the Bats this season, he went at least six innings 19 times and twirled a quality start (six-plus innings, three earned runs or less) 16 times.
