Referred to as September call-ups, minor league players across the country eye the first of September for weeks ahead of time. Major League rosters expand from 25 to 40 on that date, opening those slots for big league hopefuls. As a result of the associated player movement and planning, minor league affiliates often see signifcant changes to their own rosters.

Here's who the Indianapolis Indians have welcomed this week:

RHP Jason Creasy 2016: 4-1, 5.24 ERA, 11G/5GS

Right-hander Jason Creasy hails from Clayton, North Carolina. During his senior year at Clayton High School, Creasy was named Pitcher of the Year with an ERA of 1.43 and 68 strikeouts. He was then selected in the First-Year Player Draft by the Pirates in 2011, spending his first season with the GCL Pirates. 2013 marked Creasy's debut for the West Virginia Power, putting up 96 strikeouts and only 24 walks over 108.1 frames. Creasy spent two seasons with the Altoona Curve (2015 and 2016) before being put on the disabled list and spending a rehab assignment with the West Virginia Black Bears.

OF Justin Maffei 2016: .254/.321/.333, 1 HR, 17 RBI

A 25th round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Francisco, Justin Maffei quickly made his presence known, starting with the Jamestown Jammers. The San Francisco native batted a .292, contributing 22 RBIs and 43 runs scored during the 2013 season. Upon his arrival in Bradenton in 2014, Maffei recorded a .376 OBP and a .303 average. Maffei returned to Bradenton following a brief stint in Altoona during the 2016 season, adding 12 RBIs and a .344 average before being assigned to Indianapolis.

INF Trace Tam Sing 2016: .222/.391/.306, 0 HR, 3 RBI

Trace Tam Sing was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2010 draft from Bellevue, Washington before he was signed as a free agent by the Pirates. After spending the 2014 season with the Jamestown Jammers, Tam Sing was officially signed to the Pirates in 2015. Between his time with West Virginia and Bradenton in 2015, Tam Sing batted a .319 with 12 doubles and 23 RBIs.

RHP Jhondaniel Medina 2016: 3-3, 3.38 ERA, 44G/0GS

Jhondaniel Medina returns to Indianapolis after his time pitching for the Altoona Curve. Born in Maracay, Edo. Aragua, Venezuela, Medina began his career in the Pirates system in Bradenton in 2013. Medina faced several team assignments during the 2013 season before returning to Bradenton for a strong 2014 season. Over 50.0 innings pitched, Medina posted a 0.72 ERA, notching 47 strikeouts and only eight runs. Following the 2014 season, Medina was assigned to the Altoona Curve where he added another 44 strikeouts.

LHP Zach Phillips 2016: 9-3, 4.35 ERA, 50G/0GS

Zach Phillips started his professional career in 2004 when he was selected by the Texas Rangers out of his hometown of Sacramento, California. During the 2009 season split between Single-A Bakersfield and Double-A Frisco, Phillips put up a 1.39 ERA, among the lowest of Rangers' minor leaguers. Phillips was signed to Oklahoma City in 2010 and recorded 14.2 scoreless innings over 10 appearances and made two trips to the Pacific Coast League playoffs. The 2015 season saw Phillips with the Charlotte Knights where he had a career high 12 saves and was named an IL All-Star. Phillips joins the Tribe's bullpen after the trade of LHP Kyle Lobstein to the Baltimore Orioles.
