August 28, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising FC set the record for the longest winning streak in American professional soccer history (16) following a thrilling 4-2 win over Tacoma Defiance.
WHAT TO KNOW
Phoenix Rising extends its winning streak to 16 matches, a new American professional soccer record.
Forward Adam Jahn notched a brace.
Captain Solomon Asante tallied a goal and an assist.
HIGHLIGHTS
With the club trailing 2-1 going into the 81st-minute, captain Solomon Asante scored an equalizer directly off a corner kick to make it 2-2.
Two minutes later, in the 83rd minute, Rising was on the front foot again. This time midfielder Kevon Lambert dribbled down the endline and let off a quick shot that was saved by the goalkeeper. But the rebound fell directly in front of Adam Jahn, who poked the ball into the back of the net for the game winner.
Rising FC forward Junior Flemmings finished the three-goal flurry in the 84th minute. After receiving a pass from Jose Aguinaga near the top of the box, Flemmings turned, dribbled a few steps, and then curled a shot inside the far right post from outside of the box to make it 4-2.
The match started strongly for Phoenix Rising. Jahn opened the scoring just two minutes in with a neatly-placed header off an assist from Solomon Asante. But Defiance goals from Shandon Hopeau in the 26th minute and Handwalla Bwana in the 72nd minute appeared to put Rising FC's historic winning streak in jeopardy.
Phoenix Rising continues its road trip this Saturday, August 31, at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The match will air live on Your PHX CW (channels 6 & 61.1) with kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
