Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - The Spokane Indians are rounding into form just in time for the TicketsWest Northwest League Playoffs. Tyler Phillips (4-7) pitched 6.1 strong innings and Spokane's offense backed him up with two home runs as the Indians topped the Hops 5-2 in front of 4,246 fans at Avista Stadium for Raining Money & Formal Night presented by Bridal Collections, NOW 105.7, and Coeur d'Alene Press.
The win was the third in four games against the Hops for Spokane following a 10-game losing skid that put the team's odds of advancing in the postseason in serious jeopardy. The Indians have put that skid behind them and look like ready to make some noise in the playoffs as their pitching, hitting, and defense are all clicking at the same time.
Phillips produced his best outing in over a month as he held Hillsboro to just five hits and no earned runs while striking out five and walking two. He handed the ball over to Reid Anderson who pitched the game's final 2.2 innings to pick up his first professional save.
Spokane got on the board in the first on a single from Charles Leblanc as the fourth-round pick collected his sixth RBI in the last four games. After the Hops scored twice in the third, Alex Kowalczyk helped the Indians regain the lead with a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame. First baseman Curtis Terry added a solo blast in the sixth and Luis Terrero capped off the scoring with an RBI single.
Kowalczyk finished 3-for-4 while Terry and Terrero each had a pair of hits in the win. The victory improved Spokane to 12-22 in the second half and 31-41 overall.
