Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
VANCOUVER, Canada-The Volcanoes' road trip to Canada was off to a hot start for in the first two games of their five game series against the Vancouver Canadians, including holding on to a 5-4 victory Tuesday night. However, Wednesday brought poor weather and two separate rain delays, as the Volcanoes dropped the third game of the series 13-8.
Volcanoes starter Matt Krook struggled from very early on. He allowed four hits and issued four walks in his 0.2 innings, ultimately allowing five earned runs.
Reliever John Timmins didn't allow a run while giving up just one hit, as he pitched the seventh and eighth innings in his best outing of the year.
Starting in left field for the Volcaneos was new arrival Jacob Heyward, a University of Miami product and younger brother of Cubs' outfielder Jason Heyward. The younger Heyward picked up his first hit as a member of the Volcanoes, a single to lead off the seventh inning.
Catcher Zack Bowers hit a sixth inning home run, his second of the year. He added a two-RBI double in the second inning to total four RBI on the game, leading the Volcaneos offensively.
Right fielder Heath Quinn added three hits, including two doubles, to continue his hot streak at the plate. He leads the Northwest League with a .560 slugging percentage.
The Volcanoes will get another chance to clinch a series win in Vancouver Thursday night; first pitch is 7:05 P.M.
