Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX FALLS, S. D. - The Pheasants shutout the RailCats 5-0 on Monday night to sweep the four-game series and send the RailCats to their sixth straight loss.

RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock (1-4) delivered a quality outing, holding Sioux Falls to three runs, two earned in six innings. It was his team-leading fourth quality start of the year. The club is just 1-3 in his quality starts.

An error led to an unearned run for the Pheasants in the first. After Jonny Kaplan singled, RailCats shortstop David Cooper mishandled a ground ball by Cory Morales, allowing Kaplan to advance to third. He would score on a groundout by Cesar Nicolas to give the Pheasants a 1-0 lead.

The Pheasants added a run in the third on a run-scoring single by Jared Bolden. Al Quintana hit an RBI single in the fourth to increase the lead to 3-0.

Pheasants starter Mitchell Clegg (3-2) held the RailCats to three hits in six innings. The southpaw has not allowed a run to the RailCats in two starts, covering 13 innings against them this season.

Nicolas hit an RBI single in the seventh and Cory Morales drove in a run with a bloop hit in the eighth for the final tallies.

The RailCats had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth and ninth but were unable to score, as they stranded 12 runners on the night. It was the second time that the RailCats were shutout in the series and they were limited to three runs in the four games.

The 'Cats will begin a four-game series at Sioux City on Tuesday night at 7:05. Morgan Coombs (2-4, 6.05) will start for Gary.
