Upcoming

The Phantoms are winding down their seven-game road-trip to six different cities as they enter the second-half of their longest away tour of the season. It's four games down and three to go on the trip with games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Norfolk, Virginia followed by a Saturday night contest at the Connecticut Whale.

Including the trips to-and-from Glens Falls, the Phantoms will have logged over 2,200 bus-miles in just two weeks by the time they return home from Hartford this Saturday night.

The Admirals are one of the hottest teams in the league having gone 11-4-2 since February 4 in their late-season push.

Of course, that road-trip finale in Hartford on Saturday is a rematch of the last home game the Phantoms played on March 9. In that game, the Phantoms dramatically overcame a 3-1 deficit with 6:00 remaining by scoring three straight goals capped by Jason Akeson's hat-trick winner with 2:48 left.

Adirondack has already traveled to Albany, Portland, Binghamton and Hershey so far on the road-trip as they have continued to rack-up the miles.

Adirondack finally returns for their first home-game in 15 days on Sunday, March 24 at 3:00 and we want you there to welcome them home! The game is against the Portland Pirates on Dax's Kids Club Day featuring a Post-Game Skate with the Phantoms players after the game presented by Glens Falls Hospital. Get your Sunday Family 3-Packs for only $43 to receive 3 tickets, 3 hot dogs, 3 sodas, 1 large popcorn and 1 program. Call the Phantoms to order yours at 518-480-3355.

NHL Experience

Both Tye McGinn and Erik Gustafsson have recently bolstered their NHL experience as they returned to the Phantoms last week. Both played their first games back with the Phantoms last Wednesday at Portland.

McGinn joined Philadelphia on January 21 to make his NHL debut and played in 16 games with the Flyers before getting in a fight on February 25 and suffering an injury. He scored 3 goals and 2 assists and also got into a couple of impressive fights.

Gustafsson was recalled on February 16 to play his first NHL game of the season and he stayed with the Flyers for 11 games recording 2 assists.

Ten different players who have been on this year's Adirondack Phantoms have been called up to the Philadelphia Flyers this year....and counting! The list includes Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Zac Rinaldo, Eric Wellwood, Tye McGinn, Andreas Lilja, Erik Gustafsson, Brian Boucher, Harry Zolnierczyk, Michael Leighton.

Seven current Phantoms have played with the Flyers either this season or in the past:

Brian Boucher, Erik Gustafsson, Andreas Lilja, Brandon Manning, Tye McGinn, Danny Syvret, Eric Wellwood.

The Race is On!

Now that Erik Gustafsson has returned to the Adirondack Phantoms it should be a very interesting race to see who takes over the all-time career points record first and also who achieves the 100 point milestone first.

Jason Akeson now has 93 points in his Adirondack Phantoms career while Erik Gustafsson has 92 with the team. Gustafsson also has 7 points with the Flyers so has 99 as a pro and will reach that 100 professional-point milestone before he gets to 100 as a Phantom.

Denis Hamel is the all-time Adirondack Phantoms points-leader with 96 career points but that record is at risk to fall to one or both of these players in the coming weeks.

In career assists, Gustafsson (79) and Akeson (66) are already 1 and 2 with the Adirondack Phantoms.

Phantoms Week in Review

Wednesday, March 13 - Portland Pirates 6 - Adirondack Phantoms 3

Adirondack trailed 5-1 late in the third-period and started to mount an impressive comeback with back-to-back power-play goals. But the Pirates would hang on to the victory on their home-ice 6-3.

Matt Mangene scored in his first game back to his college state. He starred for the University of Maine Black Bears last season not far from Portland in Orono, ME. And his first-period goal for the Phantoms drew a number of cheers from Black Bears fans in attendance.

The game was also a homecoming of sorts for head coach Terry Murray who resides just a few miles away in Scarborough, Maine. Murray won back-to-back Calder Cups in the late 1970's playing in that building with the old Maine Mariners who were the Philadelphia Flyers affiliate at the time.

Mitch Wahl scored his first goal with Adirondack since being acquired in a trade from Calgary for Mike Testwuide a couple weeks ago. And Jason Akeson added his 12th of the season.

Friday, March 15 - Adirondack Phantoms 3 - Binghamton Senators 2

Binghamton had gained momentum with a game-tying goal with less than six-minutes remaining on their home-ice to make the score 2-2. But Adirondack quickly recovered and Tyler Brown's NHL-caliber shot from the left-wing with 4:25 left would hold-up as the game-winner for the Phantoms on just his third tally of the season.

And in other positive news, Brown escaped the celebration smothering by Zack FitzGerald unharmed.

Garrett Roe and Matt Mangene scored consecutive power-play goals just 14 seconds apart late in the first period to take a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. They were the fastest goals in succession for Adirondack this season. Roe's was 5-on-3 and Mangene's was 5-on-4 and also represented the second game in a row for his to light the lamp.

Brandon Manning assisted on all three Adirondack tallies and Brian Boucher was solid in net for the victory.

Binghamton out-shot the Phantoms 12-3 to begin the game and then Adirondack out-shot the Senators 27-10 over the next 30 minutes through the end of the second period.

Binghamton had the first three power plays of the game but Adirondack stayed out of the box after that and were able to induce a number of Senators penalties. The Phantoms drew eight consecutive power plays after the shaky start in the first period.

Sunday, March 17 - Hershey Bears 5 - Adirondack Phantoms 2

This game actually was looking to be a big win for Adirondack at the beginning, not the other way around. The Phantoms were dominating in the Hershey zone all throughout the first period and were outshooting the Bears 12-1 when Hershey head coach Mark French called timeout to right the ship.

21-year-old rookie goalie Phillip Grubauer made a number of tremendous saves to keep the score 0-0 including back-to-back point-blank saves on Jason Akeson.

Somehow, the bounces and the St. Patrick's Day fortune would start to tilt Hershey's way. They surprisingly took a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period. Jeff Taffe scored a couple along the way. Another goal bounced in on a defenseman's skate. And Hershey led 4-0 early in the third period.

Adirondack again dominated another 20-minute stretch when they out-shot Hershey 17-4 in the third period. The Phantoms scored two goals to break the Grubauer shutout curse with Marcel Noebels scoring his 7th of the season against his fellow countryman and friend from Germany. And Garrett Roe scored for the second game in a row in the closing minutes for the 5-2 final.

Saratoga Spine Phantoms Player of the Week - Tyler Brown

Tyler Brown is the Saratoga Spine Player of the Week. What Can Brown Do For You?!?!

"Brownie" came through clutch in the closing minutes of last Friday's game on the road at Binghamton with a perfect shot from the left-wing with just 4:25 remaining for a 3-2 win against the Senators.

It was Brown's third goal of the year. The Wasaga Beach, Ontario had nine goals with the Phantoms last season as a rookie and the year before that had 25 goals in his last year of Major Juniors with the Plymouth Whales of the Ontario Hockey League prior to signing with the Phantoms.
