Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - Tye McGinn recorded two goals and two assists as the Adirondack Phantoms (25-32-2-3) defeated the Norfolk Admirals (29-28-4-1), 4-1, on Tuesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
With the loss, Norfolk remains five points out of a playoff spot with 14 games remaining in the regular season.
Devante Smith-Pelly's third period power play goal was the lone strike for Norfolk. Frederik Andersen (16-13-1) turned aside 29 of the 32 shots he faced and has now recorded back-to-back losses for the first time since January.
The same two teams square off once again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.
Erik Gustafsson opened scoring 8:58 into the first period for the visitors. McGinn, who assisted on the opening tally, scored 8:58 into the second stanza to stretch Adirondack's lead to 2-0. He then added another assist as Danny Syvret netted a power play marker less than two minutes later for a 3-0 Phantoms lead.
Smith-Pelly stuffed a backhander under Adirondack goaltender Brian Boucher's pads 10:58 into the final frame to break up the shutout bid.
However, McGinn sealed the victory for the Phantoms with an empty-net goal with only 15 seconds remaining in regulation. McGinn now has seven goals and nine points in ten career games against Norfolk.
Boucher (4-5-1) made 27 saves on 28 shots for the win.
Both teams were 1-for-5 on the power play.
